A Glowing Christmas at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

We're getting towards the festive time of year, and there's only a few challenges left at The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog!

Today in the UK it is Guy Fawkes/ Bonfire Night, so our optional theme this round is LIGHT MY FIRE, which has lots of room for interpretation.

I have used My Little Christmas Light to create a 3D layered "snow" globe (it does have a bit of snow, LOL).

I found a snow globe shadow box in Cricut Design Space and did lots of slicing and merging to create my own layers. It was a PITA, but I love how it turned out!

I used a mix of traditional and non-traditional Christmas colours for the image and layers.

The curtain sash is a few images together. I squashed the snowflake shape to give it more of a side-view look. It is only ¼ inch wide, so I'm glad it cut out well!

Here you can better see the layers. I used acetate for the windows, and put the little star behind to look like he is saying "Hello" from outside.

Our challenges are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. Anyone playing the theme will receive DOUBLE ENTRIES towards the weekly prize!!

Making a (Halloween) Scene at The Paper Shelter

Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for another spooky theme at The Paper Shelter challenge blog. This week brings HALLOWEEN, NOT HALLOWEEN (use a Halloween image, but colour it in non-Halloween colours).

I have created a scene using three images - Halloween, Cute Witch and Halloween Castle Scenes pg8.

Usually I would have coloured this scene with grey castle walls, orange pumpkins, and the witch in black and purple.

Our challenges are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. Anyone playing the theme will receive DOUBLE ENTRIES towards the weekly prize!!

Spellbinding at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Spooky Peeps!

It's that time of year again where all the holiday countdowns begin. Are you a fan of Halloween? I definitely am.

This week at The Paper Shelter we have a fun (optional) challenge theme for you - GHOSTLY VELLUM. Add vellum over something on your project to give it a ghostly appearance.

I used Halloween Spell to decorate a book that I covered with handmade paper.

I didn't take a photo of the side, but I used Mod Podge and gold leaf on the page edges.

The image after colouring.

And with the vellum over for that spooky look.

I coloured the cauldron again over the vellum, and added the sentiment in vinyl to make those elements stand out more.

While I was playing with vinyl, I decided to add some to the book spine too.

Our challenges are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. Anyone playing the theme will receive DOUBLE ENTRIES towards the weekly prize!!

100th Inspiration Project at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's officially autumn in the northern hemisphere, but thankfully we still have sunshine and some warmth here in the Canadian Prairies!

I'm back with another inspiration project for The Paper Shelter, and it's a special one! I helped out with the challenge (optional) themes, so I shook things up a bit from the usual. This week brings our very first Mood Board for you to play with should you choose. I had to choose Pumpkin Spice to keep on trend for the season. I'm not big on the PSL but I like a pumpkin scone now and then, and I love these autumnal colours.

The other reason this is a special challenge is that it marks my 100th inspiration for The Paper Shelter, so of course I couldn't just make a card.

I have used two images and created a fun layered gift card/ coffee sachet holder using my Cricut. You can find My Big Scarf and Coffee Break 2 in the store.

I found this gift box on Jennifer Maker's website a few months ago, and made the penguin version below. I made the insides coloured and not lit up though.

I used the base pieces and added a table and chairs to the layers, plus a brick wall background, to create a coffee shop within a coffee cup!

I tucked one image behind the chairs and the other standing at the front.

I created a back panel for a sentiment and picture. This also serves to make the back more sturdy.

Here you can see the layers created inside.

I found the sentiment in Cricut images, and added the coffee beans and cups each side to fill out the space left.

The space at the back of the box allows for a gift card and coffee or hot chocolate sachets.

Bee Careful With Books at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for another challenge over at The Paper Shelter, and coming up, we have some fun new themes for you to try. Don't forget, these are now optional, but we'd love to see you have a play with them!

This week our optional theme is BOOKMARK IT, which is perfect for back-to-school and all the readers out there.

I have used Bee Bear along with a perfect sentiment.

I added twine and a wooden flower to give some embellishment.

I searched Google for bee sentiments and found this one, that also relates to books.

Such a cute character.

Our challenges are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. Anyone playing the theme will receive DOUBLE ENTRIES towards the weekly prize!!

Mermaid's Melody at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

Can you believe our Summer Break is already over? My kiddos will be back to school next week, so there's still a bit of time for some fun!

This week at The Paper Shelter our optional theme is MUSIC TO MY EARS, so feel free to interpret that how you like.

I have used Mermaid's Melody for a shaped card. Usually I would go for an image including an instrument or radio etc. but whistling is also music, so this one jumped out at me.

Making shaped cards is so much easier for me now, having the Cricut!

I glued the bubbles and musical notes to acetate to give the illusion that they're actually floating.

Being a mermaid image, I had to add some sparkles.

I used the Cricut pens to add the sentiment, then filled the letters in by hand.

Our challenges are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. Anyone playing the theme will receive DOUBLE ENTRIES towards the weekly prize!!

I Scream, You Scream at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for our Summer Break Challenge at The Paper Shelter! This challenge will run for four weeks to give the teams some time off to enjoy the sunshine.

The theme is ANYTHING GOES to make it super easy to join.

For my inspiration I have made an interactive bookmark using Ice Cream Time, which gives those perfect summer vibes.

I used orange and pink for the colour scheme, making the front and back of the bookmark different colours.

The ice-cream is a Cricut cut-out with coloured card behind. I gave it more details using gel pens and white pencil.

The interactive part is the suspended sentiment. I wanted a fun addition to my usual bookmarks!

I used blue for the clothing, to give contrast to the background.
