A Mermaid Portrait at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

I'm here with another inspiration for The Paper Shelter and I am keeping with the MerMay theme. Our challenge theme this week is Lots Of Layers, so you can have lots of fun with this one.

I have used page 17 of the "Mermaid Portraits" colouring book to create a layered and framed picture for myself. I made this in stages, in between doing other things, as there is a lot that went into it!

I coloured the entire image, even though I knew much of it would be covered by the frame. I needed to make sure that there would be colour through all the gaps. I finished off with some glitter gel pens and Wink of Stella.

I used a few different dies and cardstock colours for the layers and added some extra elements after putting it all together with 3D foam tape.

The frame was grey with woodgrain, and I initially just wanted to add some shimmer to it, but the spray dried and all flaked off! I used my homemade texture paste all over the frame in the end, then added colour on top and finally sprayed the shimmer.
My husband bought me some Swarovski crystals when he visited a friend in Austria last year and I had not known what to do with them, so I thought this box frame was the perfect place. There are also a few within the bubble holes in the card layers.

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

Please come and join in our challenge this week and remember, you can use any image but if you use a Paper Shelter image you are eligible for a higher value prize!

You can also share your creations over in our new Facebook Group.

  4. Wow Nicola - stunning card . Great colouring and SO much detail - well done. I had to hunt through your write-up to see what snippets you used - I found that you used card scraps for the bubbles in the end. So that's fine.
