Bee Careful With Books at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for another challenge over at The Paper Shelter, and coming up, we have some fun new themes for you to try. Don't forget, these are now optional, but we'd love to see you have a play with them!

This week our optional theme is BOOKMARK IT, which is perfect for back-to-school and all the readers out there.

I have used Bee Bear along with a perfect sentiment.

I added twine and a wooden flower to give some embellishment.

I searched Google for bee sentiments and found this one, that also relates to books.

Such a cute character.

Our challenges are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. Anyone playing the theme will receive DOUBLE ENTRIES towards the weekly prize!!

You can also share your creations over in our Facebook Group.

Mermaid's Melody at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

Can you believe our Summer Break is already over? My kiddos will be back to school next week, so there's still a bit of time for some fun!

This week at The Paper Shelter our optional theme is MUSIC TO MY EARS, so feel free to interpret that how you like.

I have used Mermaid's Melody for a shaped card. Usually I would go for an image including an instrument or radio etc. but whistling is also music, so this one jumped out at me.

Making shaped cards is so much easier for me now, having the Cricut!

I glued the bubbles and musical notes to acetate to give the illusion that they're actually floating.

Being a mermaid image, I had to add some sparkles.

I used the Cricut pens to add the sentiment, then filled the letters in by hand.

Our challenges are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. Anyone playing the theme will receive DOUBLE ENTRIES towards the weekly prize!!

I Scream, You Scream at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for our Summer Break Challenge at The Paper Shelter! This challenge will run for four weeks to give the teams some time off to enjoy the sunshine.

The theme is ANYTHING GOES to make it super easy to join.

For my inspiration I have made an interactive bookmark using Ice Cream Time, which gives those perfect summer vibes.

I used orange and pink for the colour scheme, making the front and back of the bookmark different colours.

The ice-cream is a Cricut cut-out with coloured card behind. I gave it more details using gel pens and white pencil.

The interactive part is the suspended sentiment. I wanted a fun addition to my usual bookmarks!

I used blue for the clothing, to give contrast to the background.

Art Deco Thanks at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's been a rather busy couple of weeks for me, with my husband's birthday then my daughter's birthday two days later! I was doing lots of crafting for her hotel staycation party, so I ended up making this week's inspiration rather last minute. Oops.

This challenge marks my 4th anniversary with The Paper Shelter Design Team, so the optional theme of THANK YOU is quite fitting.

I want to thank (the late) Veronica for organizing everything with the teams, and of course thanks to Pedro for his wonderful images. Thanks also to Vanessa, who is now team leader for both teams.

Here's a throwback to my very first project for the team in July 2021!

Back to this week's challenge though. I have used ART DECO CHARM to make my first Accordion Fan Fold card.

This card fold is really simple, but kind of fiddly getting the fan parts lined up. I didn't' quote manage to get each side even, but I think it still looks great for my first attempt.

I cut all pieces using Cricut Joy Xtra.

The cards I've seen like this all only had the downward-facing triangles so I wanted to give mine a different look, and printed the image in an upright triangle.

From the front, these cards look like the triangles are more of a "topper" piece but the centre triangle folds and attaches to the back.

For a change, I chose my papers first then coloured the image to match.

I had to add a charm, to go with the name of the image!

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

Please come and join in our challenge this week and remember, you can use any image but if you use a Paper Shelter image you are eligible for a higher value prize!

Genie's Birthday Wishes at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's been a weird mix of weather here lately. Sunny daytimes then dark clouds coming by the time school is out. We finally got a couple of thunderstorms, then lots of rain over the weekend. It was very needed with the wildfires in this province.

Anyhoo, it's onto a brand new Anything Goes challenge over at The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog. This week our optional theme is CUT IT UP!

I have used 'Genie In The Lamp' for an interactive slimline card.

I had to colour him blue as a tribute to Robin Williams' Genie in Aladdin.

He rises out of his lamp to grant your wishes!

My Fantasy Pet at The Paper Shelter

Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for another challenge over at The Paper Shelter Blog and this week our optional theme is INSPIRED BY A BOOK OR MOVIE.

I chose "My Fantasy Pet" as I love dragons, and this image makes me think of the movie Mulan. Mushu the dragon is a favourite character of mine.

I used the included paper and merged it with the blank image but accidentally printed without colour, so the background came out as greyscale. Oops. I used pencil to colour it, giving it a more muted tone and I think it actually works well.

The lantern/sentiment are cut/drawn using Cricut and ended up being a little small, so it's hard to read. I chose a quote from Mulan -

"The Flower That Blooms In Adversity Is The Most Rare And Beautiful Of All."  ~

The Emperor

Fairy Garden Thoughts at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

Time is just flying by this year (and it seems every year since Covid, honestly. I'm still not sure where 2023 went!).

It's time for another challenge over at The Paper Shelter and this week our optional theme is ENJOY THE OUTDOORS, so hopefully you've had nice enough weather to do that. We've had lots of rain and wind lately, but it's finally getting nicer.

I have used Page 14 from the Fairytale Ladies colouring book to make an easel card. This fairy is enjoying some relaxation time among the garden flowers.

The easel part sits back further than I would normally do, to account for the sentiment.

I like to go over the wings with white pen to give them a more transparent look.

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

Enchanted MerMay Shadowbox at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for another challenge over at The Paper Shelter, and this week our optional theme is MERMAIDS for MerMay.

I decided to make a shadow box as these are so much quicker for me now I have a Cricut, and I already had a frame made that I hadn't used.

I used Enchanted Ocean and cut the image parts separately so I could arrange them on different layers of my shadowbox.

I used shadowbox layers that I found on Cricut Design Space and added a couple more to complete the scene.

I kept the project to mostly cardstock but added a few embellishments.

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

The Most Adorable Note Holder at The Paper Shelter

Hello Crafty Peeps,

Time sure is flying by this year! I can't believe we're already at the end of April. Thankfully our snow seems to have finally gone, so I'm hoping we don't get any more (although, several places had a lot of snow last week).

Don't forget that our challenges at The Paper Shelter are now ANYTHING GOES with an optional theme. This week the theme is CUTIES, so I'm sure you won't find that especially difficult!

I have used The Most Adorable Panda for a sticky note holder, as I've had teacher gifts on my mind lately.

I haven't made an upright holder before, but I saw this one on the Cricut app and gave it some tweaks to suit my theme.

My printer really hates the cardstock that I use for markers, and won't print on it unless I add a strip of paper to the end. It's annoying as eff and I didn't want to mess around with that for a print and cut, so I just used regular card and coloured with pencils instead.

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.
