13th Birthday Blog Hop at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

Welcome to The Paper Shelter Blog Hop, in celebration of The Paper Shelter's 13th Birthday on the 8th of December!  This will be a two week challenge, with both teams taking part, and it's our way of thanking The Paper Shelter for sharing their wonderful images with us, and sponsoring our challenge.

The theme for this special challenge is:

CELEBRATIONS

If you've arrived here from Natascha, then you're heading in the right direction!  If not, then you'll want to pop back to The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog to start again, because you don't want to miss out on this one.  Both Design Teams are participating, showcasing the gorgeous images available from The Paper Shelter, and each blog on the hop is offering one lucky commenter a digi of their choice, as well as the main prize, details of which are on The Paper Shelter Challenge Blog.

I have created a birthday card using 'Let's Get Loud'. With that name, I thought I would use some loud colours for the image and embellishments.

I made a bokeh background and added white highlights to make the image really pop.

Of course you can't have a celebration without balloons and sparkle!

Products used:
  • Card blank
  • Papermania patterned paper
  • Sentiment die
  • Twine
  • Posca paint pen - White
  • Balloon dies

Winter Blues at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

It's time for another challenge at The Paper Shelter and this time the theme is Colours Of Winter.

I have used a page from the 'Charming Vintage Teacups' PDF colouring book and coloured it in shades of blue for fairly simple card. I like the contrast of using such cold colours for something that would usually be giving warm vibes!

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

Please come and join in our challenge this week and remember, you can use any image but if you use a Paper Shelter image you are eligible for a higher value prize!

A Victorian Gothic Birthday at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

I'm back with some more inspiration for The Paper Shelter. This week our theme is Fun Folds, so you can use any kind of image or greeting on your card.

I have used a page from the Victorian Gothic Dolls colouring book for a pop-out gatefold card. It is the first time I have made this fold. I had already printed the image, so I had to adjust the measurements a bit to make it fit.

I didn't want a lot of embellishments as I really like the papers. So I kept it simple with lace, gems and some liquid pearls.

The lace was probably a little too close to the folds, so I had to make a new belly band so it would fit the thicker size!

This was the first time I made a card before colouring the image. I kept her duo-chrome to pick out a couple of colours from the papers.

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

A Very Snowflake Christmas at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

I'm here with some inspiration for The Paper Shelter and this week our theme is Stencil It, so grab out those inks and stencils and show us some of your creativity!

I have used 'Snowflake Fairy' for a fairly simple card, keeping the image and stenciling as the main focus.

I love to outline fairy wings in white to make them appear more transparent.

Being a Christmas card with a fairy, I had to give it some sparkles!

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

Haunted Manor Canvas

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

I couldn't resist the new Haunted Manor Portraits images from Sweet November Stamps. I grabbed 'Count Dracul' and 'Marchioness Serpentina' to play with, as I love vampires and snakes!

At this time of year I am usually making myself a new Halloween decoration, so because these are portraits, I decided to make a canvas to look like a manor wall.

I started off with the images, adding woodgrain detail to the frames using pencils over the marker.

Count Dracul is in traditional colours and I added some 'blood' stains to his cravat, as he is quite overzealous when he eats, haha.

Marchioness Serpentina definitely needed deadly snakes, so I turned them into coral snakes. Her outfit colours and the snake colours mirror those of Count Dracul.

For the canvas I started by covering it in Distress Inks, then I added a layer of Texture Paste through a stencil and finished off with more Distress Inks once it was dry.

I wanted more of a haunted. spooky vibe, so I made my own 'blood' using clear glossy texture paste and red food colouring. It was a great experiment that turned out really well.

The lovely drips did flatten out, which is a shame, but it's still a great effect.

And here is the finished piece which is proudly hanging in my lounge.

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you are inspired to create a canvas of your own!

Spooky Birthday Wishes at The Paper Shelter

Hello Spooky Crafty Peeps,

It's time for another challenge at The Paper Shelter and this week our theme is Halloween/Halloween Colours. I never give Halloween cards, so I usually end up making myself more decorations. This time I am using Halloween colours for a spooky birthday card. It is my birthday soon and I have friend's birthdays coming up too,.

I have used 'October Elegance' for a pop-up front step panel card. Previously I have only made these square, so this time I have changed up the dimensions and placed the pop-up panel to the side rather than in the middle.

I think this is a really fun 'costume' for a spooky ball!

Of course my Stickles had to be right at the end, so I cut the top off and used a pokey stick to finish filling in the sentiment.

For a finishing touch I added some 'eyes' to the top of the pop-up panel.

Thank you for stopping by today. Your kind comments are always appreciated.

Autumn Mermaid at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

I'm back again with some more inspiration for The Paper Shelter. This week our challenge theme is For A Friend, so you can interpret this any way you like.

I have used 'Pretty Mermaid' for a layered birthday card. I am always using mermaid images for summer cards, so I thought I would do something different and use more autumnal colours.

I think this paper is meant to be rainbows, but it looks cool upside-down as mermaid scales!

I kept the mermaid within the colour scheme of the papers, just brighter for the tail.

I used shimmer paint all over the image then covered it with 3D gloss, I'm a bit gutted about the cracks, but not a lot I can do about that!

Living It Up at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

I'm back with some more inspiration for The Paper Shelter. This week our theme is Food & Drink, so get out those delicious images and have fun with yummy embellishments!

I have used '3D Movie' for an easel card.

I merged the uncoloured image with the coloured background using Photoshop, as this isn't an easy image to fussy-cut.

My bestie made me a popcorn embellishment from Fimo clay, as neither of us had anything suitable to use!

Shaking It Up For Christmas

Hello Crafty Peeps,

The kiddoes are back to school now, so I have a bit more time to myself for crafting!

Sweet November Stamps are having a challenge in their Facebook group with a theme of shakers, so I thought I would make a shaker tag as I usually only make cards.

'Candy Cane Fairy' is the perfect size for a tag. I coloured her all in traditional candy cane colours and encased the tag in cellophane for the shaker elements. I also added loose glitter, so naturally that went all over me too!!

Thanks for stopping by today. Be sure to come back soon!

Sparkly Thanks at The Paper Shelter

 Hello Crafty Peeps,

We have resumed our normal schedule at The Paper Shelter and Team B are back this week with a brand new challenge. The theme this time is Make It Sparkle, so get out those bling embellishments and sparkly papers and show us your creativity!

I have used 'Lotus Fairy', alongside lots of glitter paper for a layered thank you card.

I created a simple 'bubble' background for the fairy

It's never easy showing shimmer on a full card photo!

The glitter card shows better under a light.
