Wash Your Hands!

Hello Crafty Peeps! How are you all doing in these crazy times?  It's been a bit noisier in my household with everyone home, but we are muddling through.

Today I just want to share a colouring of one of Power Poppy's latest images, 'Wash Your Hands', which Marcella drew as a reminder to us all.  I didn't write down the colours I used like I usually do, as I just wanted to enjoy the colouring part!

I use ProMarkers as you know, but often I turn to Copic marker tutorials as these are more abundant. For the soap bubbles I have used THIS tutorial from Mindy Baxter at My Creative Scoop. Aren't they fun?

I am entering my colouring into Power Poppy's challenge - Just Color!

Bauble Fairy Christmas

I thought I'd get one last post in before the year ends!  Did you all have a wonderful Christmas?  I spent mine in the mountains, but unfortunately the horrible colds and coughing persisted for all of us.  It was lovely to get away and do something different though.

Today I am sharing a CAS Christmas card that I made following a wonderful tutorial from Zoe at Make It Crafty.  She has recently ventured into doing video tutorials and launched a new site The Coloring Lab.  If you haven't checked it out yet, there is a free course you can take.
I bought this bauble fairy class a few months ago, but I was then so busy with other things I hadn't done it.  I was determined to get it done before Christmas though so I made time and did it over a couple of days.  The tutorials are using Copic markers, but you can use any brand you like.
Do you ever make a card you couldn't bear to give up?  I do that all the time...so you know what I do then? I give them to my husband, lol.

Products used:

  • Kraft card blank
  • MIC chipboard sentiments
  • Distress Ink - Forest Moss & Stormy Sky
  • Spectrum Noir Sparkle - Onyx Black
  • ProMarkers - Meadow Green, Lemon, Leaf Green, Cardinal, Hot Pink, Carmine, Pastel Pink, Raw Sienna, Gold, Yellow, Duck Egg, Cool Aqua, Turquoise, Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Putty, Marine, Holly & Forest Green

I am entering my cards into the following challenges:
  1. Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge - #418 ATG
  2. Passion For ProMarkers - WK473 Mega Christmas Challenge

Sunset Beach

Hey Crafty Peeps, is it spring where you are?  We have a beautiful sunny day here but still lots of snow, so I'm not really in a spring mood just yet.
I've been eyeing Make It Crafty's 'Colouring Skies' eBook for a while, so with it being half price for their latest challenge I knew I couldn't wait any longer!

I will be framing this picture for my gallery as I'm really pleased with how it turned out.  I wasn't too sure about the sky when I started.... not so easy with bullet nibs!
  • ProMarkers - Buttercup, Tulip, Amber, Pastel Pink, Carmine, Amethyst, China Blue, Cobalt Blue, True Blue, French Navy, Caramel, Sandstone, Warm Grey 1-5 & Black
  • White Sakura Gelly Roll
  • Wink of Stella

I added some Wink of Stella to really make the sea shimmer

Follow Me on Fairybook

I have just completed the latest monthly class at Kit & Clowder, sponsored by The Paper Shelter. I have only used one of their images previously, years ago when I was on a design team, but they fell by the wayside for me.
Alyce used Bookworm Fairy in the class, who is totally adorable and I do love reading, but I chose to use Follow Me On Fairybook as she is so appropriate for me these days, working hard on her laptop!

ProMarkers used:

  • Trees - Umber, Burnt Sienna, Cinnamon & Tan
  • Grass - Meadow Green, Holly, Lush Green, Moss, Leaf Green & Apple
  • Clouds & Sky - Lilac, Lavender, Amethyst, Aubergine, Slate, Violet, China Blue, Cobalt, Blue Pearl, Orchid & Blossom
  • Laptop - Denim Blue, Blue Pearl & Powder Blue
  • Flowers - Plum, Purple, Amethyst & Sunflower
  • Toadstools - Walnut, Cocoa, Raw Sienna, Crimson, Berry & Lipstick
  • Butterfly - Cocoa, Raw Sienna, Amber, Sunflower, Tulip, Orchid & Blossom
  • Skin - Burnt Sienna, Cinnamon, Tan, Dusky Pink, Satin, Almond & Rose Pink
  • Eyes - Bright Green & Lime Green
  • Hair - Burgundy, Shale, Cardinal, Hot Pink & Lipstick
  • Clothing - Burnt Orange, Pumpkin, Amber & Sunflower

Also used White Sakura Gelly roll

Folds, Sparkles and All That Jazz!

The latest monthly class at Kit & Clowder is a great one for people like me who hate colouring hair, lol.  Alyce has chosen some wonderful images from Moonflower with big hair and lots of folds to practice these techniques.  I am in the marker classes, but chose to use the pencil class image as I preferred this one.
I decided I wanted to keep this class, so rather than putting her on a card, I fussy-cut her and put her in a simple clip frame.  I had bought a couple of frames, but the edges were too close and cut the image up a little.

Product list:
  • Clip frame
  • Lilac paper
  • Core'dinations GlitterSilk card
  • White Sakura Gelly Roll
  • ProMarkers - Burnt Sienna, Cinnamon, Dusky Pink, Satin, Almond, Black, Warm Grey 4 & 5, Indigo, French Navy, Aegean, Cyan, Duck Egg, Cool Aqua, Tea Green, Cocoa, Gold, Sunflower, Canary, Lemon, Mulberry, Magenta, Carmine, Antique Pink, Pastel Pink & Sunkissed Pink

I had to photograph from slightly above so not to get any reflection on the glass. It does make the picture look a little odd to me, but it couldn't be helped!

I am entering my picture into the following challenges:
  1. The Ribbon Girl - July Use Any Image
  2. Colour Crazy - wk29 AG
  3. Creative Fingers - #134 AG
  4. Lemon Shortbread - #46 AG
  5. Polkadoodles - wk28 AG

My Digital Stamp and Colouring Journey

Warning - lots of reading to do in this post, but I will have some photos at the end!

When I started blogging in 2013, I  hadn't even heard of Digital Stamps.  I was making cards with my toppers and the stash I had. I got a couple of Polkadoodles images free with a magazine, but I still didn't discover the online world of DigiStamps until I found Bugaboo in August 2013.  I was colouring with the Caran D'Ache pencils I'd received as a child as this was the only thing I had apart from some dried-up felt pens that I'd had forever.

I continued using Bugaboo stamps and my pencils until I was chosen as a DT member of The Crafter's Cafe in February 2014. That is when I really discovered DigiStamps properly. I was seeing many different companies through the challenge entries and realised so many people were using alcohol markers. What were these magical things?  I had to investigate.  Of course, many were using Copics, but these were way out of my price range so I opted for ProMarkers. I bought a couple of sets on Amazon and had a play.

Oh boy - if I'd known then what I know now! The 12 pen sets didn't really have colours that blended well together, so it wasn't long before I was looking up blends and buying single markers to complete them. (I'm well on my way to owning the complete collection now, lol). A word of advice to those just buying markers for the first time... buy blending sets in the colours you think you'll use most first rather than just going for the biggest set you can afford.

So I was happy trying to blend in my own way and copying other people who's colouring I really liked. I was probably improving a bit the more I used the pens, but I wasn't really paying attention to the little details like folds and shadows. Then I had my daughter in July 2014 (I already had a 4 year old son). I was GDT for MelJen's Designs at the time and didn't want to let them down! I continued to colour, make cards and blog until February 2015 when we were granted work permits to Canada and I had to put my entire life into boxes. You can read that story on my return blog post here

I didn't really colour or make any cards for the next year, so my colouring had gone downhill a bit when I started again in May 2016.  I carried on as usual then somehow discovered Kit & Clowder through the free wedding rose image and class that Alyce was offering.  I admit I was naughty and didn't watch the video completely before I started using the step-by-steps to colour the rose.  It was so different from how I would've coloured it on my own though and I thought it looked pretty good.
I was so loving the technique that I did a few different colours. You can see them all on my Instagram (Link in Social Media page).
So that was that... I joined the Kit & Clowder Facebook group and got involved with the challenges there, then I eventually bought a class. You may wonder why people pay for colouring classes when there are oodles just sitting there for free on YouTube.  Well... here is why:

Alyce, the owner of Kit & Clowder spends an awful lot of time creating all the classes.  She has recently been showing us (The 'Clowdies') her behind the scenes and it's such a lot of work that I'm sure most people on YouTube just wouldn't want to go to the effort for.
The classes always feature great artists and there is always a discount code to use, or you can use any image you already own. Sometimes there is even a freebie image, background or an extra technique class.
You can choose to subscribe to monthly classes (no obligation to continue), buy a year of classes in one go, or go for a technique class.  I chose Elements of Nature as there are so many flowers in digital stamps, plus there are scenes in the class where you learn different sky and ground techniques.  Also, with this class you get all the digital images included.
I'm now also enrolled in the Monthly Classes as I just couldn't resist the November scene! I haven't been disappointed believe me.  Alyce goes through everything in a video for each image/scene and there is a step-by-step booklet to follow.
The best thing about learning with Alyce is the one-to-one feedback, which you are never going to get with freebie YouTube videos.  If you're feeling a bit stuck on anything, you can message her for some advice.  Once your image is complete, just upload it to the classroom album and Alyce will give constructive criticism as needed, or mega praise if you have done really well.. lol!  Being in the Facebook group is also great for feedback and support. It really is a wonderful crafting community which I'm so grateful to be a part of.

OK, enough blurb, let's get onto some photos.

This photo is from a blog post way back in August 2014 (See it here). I was using ProMarkers and tried to get a bit of depth by using a darker colour in the centre of the flowers, but you can see it really lacks detail

This was my very first class from Elements of Nature. I jumped straight in with the Lilies as they are my favourite flowers.  There is still room for improvement here, especially as I wasn't using bleedproof card at the time, but I was so pleased with the results. I never would've thought to colour flowers like this. Watching Alyce colour first then using the step-by-step booklet makes it so easy to learn. It's also really good to refer back to when colouring up other images with flowers in.

This is a gorgeous image from Ching-Chou Kuik called 'Lily'.  For this one I Googled lily photos and copied one I liked.  Doing the classes has given me the confidence to try techniques that previously looked too difficult.

So that is my journey. I am still constantly learning, as all artists and crafters do, but I am having fun and not being afraid to try new things.
I hope you found this helpful and will consider joining the Clowdies with your own journey.

Winter Wonderland ~ with 4 Crafty Chicks

As November draws to a close it's my final guest post over at 4 Crafty Chicks. The challenge this week (#326) is Winter Wonderland. I just had to get this wonderful image from Bugaboo Digi Stamps called 'Sign It Snow Friends'.  This one is great as comes with a frame that you can add your own sentiment to like I have. I used 'ShellaHerra' from FontBundles (I'm slightly addicted to fonts, but that's another story!)
As there's a lot going on with the image and sentiment I kept the card pretty CAS, apart from some sparkly snowflakes.
Products used:
  • Card blank from my stash
  • Core'dinations Glittersilk card
  • Sizzix Sizzlits Snowflakes #5 & #8
  • Wink of Stella Clear
  • ProMarkers - Cool Greay 1-5, Blush, Raw Sienna, Cocoa, Walnut, Cardinal, Ruby, Burnt Sienna, Gold, Tulip, Buttercup, Pine, Forest, Bright Green, Burnt Orange, Bright Orange, Peach, Lipstick, Berry, Crimson, Cyan, Duck Egg & Cool Aqua

Thorns & Roses

Happy Sunday to you all. The sun has been shining here for a week or so and it has even been as warm as summer on a couple of days!  I'm sure it won't last though as there is snow forecast for Friday.
Over on Facebook there was a Trick Or Treat Around The Blogs challenge hosted by Markers! Papers! Digis! so I grabbed this fabulous dollar digi from The East Wind called 'Thorns & Roses'.  I coloured her up for the colouring competition in the group, but I've only just got around to making a card with her.
Since joining the Facebook group and investing in a class over at Kit & Clowder I've been more into colouring backgrounds for my images. I often just fussy-cut them, but when I leave them in a square or rectangle I now don't always like all that white space! (I also didn't used to have the confidence to colour a background).
So, I bring you one of my favourite card styles - the twisted easel.  Since making my first one I now hardly ever make a straight easel.  I love the extra dimension that the twist gives and you get so much more space to work with than just making a square card.
I have used the following products to create my card:
  • Kraft card blank from Michaels
  • Core'dinations Tim Holtz Kraft Core Nostalgic Collection & Glittersilk card
  • Tonic Tim Holtz Paper Distresser
  • Gems & butterfly brad from my stash
  • ProMarkers - Umber, Khaki, Pastel Beige, Satin, French Navy, Aegean, Sky Blue, Warm Grey 1-5, Black, Burgundy, Cardinal, Ruby, Olive, Moss, Pear, Indigo, Midnight & Cobalt

Vintage ~ with 4 Crafty Chicks

It's my second week with 4 Crafty Chicks and for this challenge (#324) the theme is Vintage.
I already had the gorgeous Savannah Belle from KennyK Stamps coloured up, but I didn't know what to do with her at the time. Seems I was saving her for this challenge! I have recently been getting into canvases so decided I would make something for myself as I cannot bear to part with this image...lol.

I started with using Distress Inks and a stencil to colour the whole canvas, then Texture Paste with a different stencil on the left side.  Once that was dry I inked over again to make the texture stand out. I added some vintage lace down the left-hand side, then attached a key to some twine and glued next to the lace. I attached the image plus some flowers with brads in the centre. I finished off with some black pearls in the top-right corner and some more twine for hanging.
Products I have used to create my canvas:
  • Canvas, flowers, key, stencils & black/white twine from Michaels
  • Jute twine, pearls & brads from my stash
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks - Dried Marigold, Vinntage Photo & Walnut Stain
  • Ranger Texture Paste
  • Vintage Lace from Normas Treasures on Etsy
  • ProMarkers - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush, Rose Pink, Cocoa, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Gold, Indigo, True Blue, Cobalt, Mustard, Sky Blue, Arctic Blue, Caramel, Sandstone, Black, Cool Grey 1-5, Dusky Pink, Satin & Walnut

I am entering my canvas into the following challenges:

Anniversary Bear

With all these DT & GDT posts I've been doing, I've neglected my other cards! It was my birthday last month plus my parents' anniversary on the same day. (I joke that I was their best anniversary present!).
Having tried my first upright z-fold card a little while ago, I wanted to do another one.  I used a gorgeous Conie Fong image 'Bella with Gift' that was a freebie over at Kit & Clowder.  This cute little bear just seemed perfect for an anniversary.
Other products I have used to create my card:

  • Card blank, cardstock, twine and brad from my stash
  • Papermania designer papers from the Red Hot Paper Pack Capsule Collection
  • Promarkers - Burnt Sienna, Caramel, Sandstone, Cyan, Duck Egg, Cool Aqua, Crimson, Berry, Lipstick, Cool Grey 1 & 2, Canary, Lemon, Soft Lime, Mustard, Tulip & Buttercup

Something Wicked This Way Comes at Club KennyK

Wow, where did October go? It's already my last Halloween guest post at Club KennyK
The theme is 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' so obviously I had to break out the Graphic 45.  I've made so many Halloween cards recently, I wanted to do a little something different for this challenge. My Mum gave me a vase of black roses, so I've made a vase 'wrap' (or maybe it's a tag, I'm not sure what to call it) using 'Devil Girl'.
Other products I have used for my creation:
  • Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells papers & embellishments
  • Core'dinations Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Collection cardstock
  • Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink 'Walnut Stain'
  • Tonic Tim Holtz Paper Distresser
  • Twine, ribbon & gems from my stash
  • ProMarkers - Umber, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Gold, Cool Grey 5, Crimson, Ruby, Berry, Burgundy, Cardinal, Sandstone & Cocoa

I would like to enter my tag into the following challenges:
